Les Preparatif s du Forum

Introduction
L'engagement de femmes dans le processus de développement économique est une des clefs importantes à la croissance économique en Afrique. A ce jour, les femmes d'Afrique travaillent encore individuellement produisant donc moins. Economiquement, les femmes ont besoin de venir ensemble partager leurs connaissances, leurs expériences d'affaires, et de former un réseau solide qui permettra l'expansion d'affaires tout en apportant un impact significatif sur le développement socio-économique du Continent : raison pour laquelle ce premier forum était urgemment recommandé et attendu.

Présentation du Forum
The Le " Forum des femmes Leaders Chef d’Entreprises Africaines", était prévu du 18 au 21 Mai 2008 au Cap (Table Bay Hotel), en Afrique du Sud, initié par Femmes Leaders Africaines (Leading Women of Africa), visait à créer une plate-forme d'affaires qui va sensibiliser et présenter les immenses potentialités du Continent ; il avait pour cibles les femmes chef d’entreprises et leaders économiques des Secteurs privé et public.

Le thème du forum était: "Les femmes, les réserves de la croissance économique en Afrique".

Objectifs
Ce Forum avait trois buts principaux:
• Stimuler la création d’un réseau solide entre les femmes d’Affaires, Chefs d’entreprises et Leaders;
• Informer sur les potentialités de commerce et d’opportunités d’investissement pour les femmes en Afrique
• Exposer les diverses opportunités d’Affaires et d’investissements parmi les femmes en Afrique

Les orateurs des Institutions Locales et Internationales auraient presenter sur differents sujets affectant les femmes chefs d’entreprises Africaines:

Promotion du Forum
Le Forum a été officiellement annoncé en Octobre 2007 à travers les Magazines de Femmes, les Journaux locaux, l’internet et Les radios.
L’annonce a recu un bon support à travers l’Afrique et ainsi les bureaux des coordinations ont commencé à fonctionner dans differents Pays Africains

Difficultes

Les difficultés rencontrées lors des préparatifs ont été nombreuses, parmi lesquelles:
• Les obstacles Financiers
• Insuffisances des volontaires
• Peu de ressources Humaines

Il est à noter aussi que suite aux attaques de xénophobie contre les étrangers en Afrique du Sud durant la même periode que le Forum, certains delegués ne se sont pas senti confortables de venir en Afrique du Sud et cependant ont annulé leur participation au Forum. Cette situation a négativement affecté au bilan financier du Forum.

A la dernière minute, nous avons aussi recu des messages nous informant de l’absence des oratrices Dr H Rukato du Nepad et Agatha Johnson causée par des raisons independantes à leur volonté.

Bilan Financier
Sponsor: Le sponsor principal du Forum est le Departement de Commerce et Industry, afrique du Sud. Le Departement a sponsorisé le dinner de Gala de la ceremonie de cloture.

Autres revenues et depenses: Les frais d’enregistrement au Forum auraient suffi pour couvrir toutes les dépenses du Forum, mais suite aux annulations de participation au Forum par certains delegués, les organisateurs se sont retouvé avec un trou financier. Toutefois, le Forum a eu lieu aevc un grand success.

Délégués
Plus de 300 délégués représentant les cinq (5) Régions d'Afrique étaient attendus, mais 180 ont été compté. Parmi les raisons d’absence :
• Difficultés Financières
• Visa pour l’Afrique du Sud
• Xénophobie, pour un nombre majeur

Parmi les délégués, un grand nombre a représenté le secteur Public de Congo Démocratique et Le secteur privé du Nigeria

Déroulement

Le forum s’est tenu sous 4 aspects majeurs:
• Les communications sur differents thème
• Une exposition des opportunités d’affaires
• Le lancement officiel du Magazine FEMINAR
• La Cérémonie des récompenses (Awards)

Son Exellence Le Gouverneur de la province du Cap, Mr.Ebrahim Rasool a ouvert la cérémonie en souhaitant la bienvenue à tous les délégués venant de l'Égypte, du Nigéria, du Burkina Fasso, République de Guineé, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroun, Kenya, Malawi, République démocratique du Congo, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Afrique du Sud et États-Unis, en portant le point sur les attaques de xénophobie qui se passaient dans le Pays et en félicitant les delegués de leur courage et détermination de participer à ce Forum.

La Reine mère de Royal Bafokeng a insisté sur l’importance de Leadership des Femmes en Afrique.

Les deux Jours de Forum à Table Bay Hotel se sont déroulé dans les conditions Exceptionnellement sereine et reproductive:

• Mlle Desiree Mirabelle Djuine et Desma Reid-Coleman, representant Mme Francoise Foning, Presidente de Femmes Chefs d’Entreprises Mondiales, ont presenté sur “femmes, reserves de Croissance Economique Africaine”
• Logandree Gounden de Business Partners, a prouvé qu’ils sont des leaders dans Les Investissements de petites et moyennes Entreprises en Afrique
• Ferose Oaten, Vice President Nationale des Femmes Chef d’Entreprises Sud Africaines, a partagé sur les ingredients pour soutenir les affaires des femmes en Afrique
• Dr Amany Asfour, Presidente de Association des Femmes d’Affaires egyptiennes, a eclaircie sur l’autonomisation de la femme et les Objectifs du développement du Millenaire
• Peter Metcalfe, Chairman de la Fondation pour le Developpement Africain et le Chairman du Forum 2008, a présenté: Les Femmes en reconstruction de l’Afrique à travers le processus de la participation positive
• A la céremonie de cloture, Dr Anna Mokgokong, Président de SAWEN a démontré que l’Afrique du Sud est une destination de choix pour les affaires

L’ exhibition
Elle a vu la participation de dix (10) pays et près de 150 participantes.

La Cérémonie de récompense
Femmes Leaders Africaines a donné des prix en reconnaissance de la contribution des femmes dans le processus du développement de l'Afrique.

Ces prix créent une occasion de reconnaître les femmes qui ont démontré un leadership exceptionnel dans leurs communautés.
Parmi les Lauréates, Madame Maryam Abacha, ex première dame du Nigeria, representée par sa fille et la Reine Mère de Royal Bafokeng.
Cette première remise des prix a eu lieu au cours de la cérémonie de clôture le 21 Mai 2008 à Moyo, Speer

Il est à noter ici que, cette première fois, les laureates n’ont representé tous les Pays Africains. Ceci a été causé au manqué de communication efficace à ce sujet. Nous esperons qu’à la prochaine édition, ce Departement recevra des nominations de partout en Afrique.

Le lancement officiel du Magazine FEMINAR
Un Magazine trimestriel publié en français et en anglais et qui met l'accent sur le leadership des femmes en Afrique et la promotion du commerce inter-africaine et d'investissement. Il s’addresse également aux entreprises qui ont identifié l’Afrique comme marché pour leur expassion d’affaires et croissance.

Le Magazine a été lancé à la céremonie d’ouverture.

Résultats obtenus

Les 3 objectifs du Forum on été atteint. Cet évenement a :
• Stimulé la création d’un réseau solide entre les femmesAfricaines
• Informé sur les potentialités de commerce et d’opportunités d’investissement pour les femmes en Afrique
• Exposé les diverses opportunités d’Affaires et d’Investissements parmi les Femmes en Afrique;

L’unité des Femmes
Pour la première fois les femmes se sont réunies du Caire au Cap, de Conakry à Nairobi pour montrer leur détermination de stimuler la creation d’un réseau solide entre elles dans le Continent.

Les opportunités Economiques
Les opportunités d’affaires présentes au Forum prouvent que les femmes Africaines sont déterminées de mobiliser toutes les ressources possibles afin de de jouer un role significatif à leur émancipation économique. De partout en Afrique, les femmes ont exposé les opportunités sur:

• Le Tourisme et Hôtellerie
• La Coupe du Monde 2010 en Afrique du Sud

Beaucoup des participants ont noué des relations d’Affaires et ont même signé des partenariats durant le Forum.

Les femmes présentes au Forum, ont manifesté la necessité de representer Femmes Leaders Africaines dans leurs Pays respectifs. Parmi les noms retenus:

Le processus de representation dans tous les Pays Africains ainsi que le reste du monde est en cours.
Quelques partenariats entre Femmes Leaders Africaines et certains organismes Africains et internationaux ont été conclu.

Perspectives et Resolutions

Les résultats atteints prouvent que les femmes de toutes les 5 regions Africaines ont besoin de se rencontrer regulièrement en vue de partager l’intelligence ainsi que les opportunités Economiques que couvrent chaque Region pour accelerer la croissance économique tant attendue.

Parmi les resolutions de ce forum:
• Le Forum Annuel se tiendra de region en region avec des invitations provisoires du Nigeria en 2009 et Congo Démocratique en 2010
• L’invitation aux premières dames Africaines de prendre un role visible et de devenir participantes à l’émancipation économique de la femme sur le Continent. Un Comité des premières Dames est entrain d’être constitué.
• Appel aux Institutions tant Africaines qu’Internationales de soutenir les Femmes Leaders Africaines vue ici comme la “porte parole” des femmes du continent, dans ses activités et efforts de presser sur l’autonomisation économique de la femme africaine pour combattre la pauvreté si celles – ci sont serieuses de voir le standard social des femmes changé.
• Informe l’opinion continentale et internationale que les femmes Africaines désormais ont une voix, et sont prêtes de parler elles mêmes que d’être représentées ou mandatées par des hommes qui determinent leur destiné. La question n’est plus celle de”qu’est ce que nous pouvons faire pour les femmes Africaines? Mais plutot celle de “Qu'allons – nous faire (ensemble) avec les femmes Africaines: être part et prendre part sur l’ensemble des décisions qui nous concernent.

Conclusion

Les délégations sont rentrées satisfaites des rencontres et partenariats conclus, mais surtout comblée d’avoir eu un apércu général de Femmes Leaders Africaines comme organisation afin de mieux se preparer pour une bonne participation aux activités prochaines.

Nos souhaits sont de voir les autorités des institutions tant privés que publiques ainsi que les organismes Internationaux de prendre sur eux d’accompagner Les Femmes Leaders Africaines dans leur quête de contribuer au processus de la paix et stabilité en Afrique. Qui sait, c’est peut-être le début de la reconstruction tant espérée de notre Continent.

Nous encourageons les femmes Africaines de s’adhérer à cette Organisation qui offre l’unique plate forme des opportunités continentales et internationales en terme de developpement économique pour devenir participantes dans le proccessus de l’émancipation économique de la femme et au développement du Continent.

Reminders

Background
The involvement of women in the process of economic development is an important key to economic growth in Africa. So far, African women still work individually producing less. Economically, women need to come together to share their knowledge, experiences in business, and form a strong network that will expand business while providing a significant impact on socio-economic development of the Continent: Due to this the first forum was urgently recommended and expected.

Presentation Forum
The Leading Businesswomen of Africa Forum was planned from 18 to 21 May 2008 in Cape Town (Table Bay Hotel), South Africa, initiated by the Leading Women of Africa, intended to create a business platform that will sensitize and present immense potential of the Continent; it has targeted female business leaders and economic role players of private and public sectors. The theme of the forum was: "Women, Africa’s economic growth Reserves".

Objectives

The Forum had three main goals:
• To stimulate the creation of a strong network among women Leaders
• exhibit various opportunities for business and investment among women in Africa
• Start the process of unity of Business and professional women

Benefits
The forum was designed to solidify the relationship between business and professional women of the Continent. Among other things, joining the Network and participation in the Forum aimed to provide opportunities below:
• Access to the Database of Business Women of Africa
• Access to database of Business and Investments opportunities in Africa
• The exhibition of products and services
• Advertising in FEMINAR Magazine, published in French and English, distributed throughout the world. Feminar Magazine was launched at the Forum.

b) Women in Business in Africa
c) The business and Investment opportunities in Africa
d) The impact of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa on businesswomen.

More than 300 delegates representing the five (5) regions of Africa were expected. Among them dignitaries, Businesswomen or speakers such as:

1st Leading Women of Africa Awards
“The Leading Women of Africa Awards create an opportunity to acknowledge women who have shown outstanding leadership characteristics in various capacities.

Organizers and Sponsors official

For the practical phase, the firm Pax Valencia in Burkina Faso has been accredited on February 7, 2008 for the promotion and coordination of the Forum in West Africa. It was joined by the Association of Women Affairs of Burkina Faso (AFAB), Manageria International Inc. (Abidjan, Ivory Coast) Agency Intermediation Assistance, Commerce (AICOM) for the implementation of voucher Communication.

Preparations

The Coordination Committee West Africa, from February 8, prepared a comprehensive work programme, a communication plan and a budget estimate was presented to various institutions in order to seek support for women who did not traditionally have access to such opportunities.

Eight (8) responses were received of which four (4) favourable, especially coming from:
• Prime Minister
• Ministry of Housing and Urban Development
• Ministry of Commerce, the Promotion of Enterprise and Handicrafts
• Program Capacity Building Enterprise (ESRP)

Three (3) negative responses and the rest (89.8%) without result.

In particular, the coordinating team was received by the Director of Cabinet of His Excellency Mr. Prime Minister, Mr Jerome COMPAORE.

The Committee was alsoreceived by Mrs. Fati Alice SANDWIDI, Technical Counsellor of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, then the meeting with Women Entrepreneurs in Building and Public Works took place on March 20 in the Lecture Hall of the ministry.

In the same manner, the Minister of Commerce, the Promotion of Enterprise and Handicrafts, has instructed his Secretary-General to receive the team on March 5 in the presence of Ms. OUEDRAOGO Korotoumou . Several meetings were held with them to target sectors and investment opportunities in Burkina Faso.

In addition to Ms. Amélie TAMBOURA, Senior Program Capacity Building Enterprise (ESRP), concluded that the highlight of preparations has been the conference organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Handicrafts of Burkina Faso.

A final press conference was organized by the Union of Textile Producers (UPROTEX - HA-C) on May 15 at Headquarters of the Conseil National du Patronat Burkina Faso.

Ms. Jocelyne VOKOUMA, Secretary General of the Ministry for the Promotion of Women received the Committee at her office and received various advices from her as well as encouragements from the Minister who was not present at the meeting.

48 pre-entries were recorded between February 10 and April 30. Due to various reasons, Five confirmations have been noted and finally three (3) participants:
• Mrs. Fatimata COULIBALY, CEO of the company EBER
• Ms. Workya YAMEOGO / ROUAMBA, General Manager of the company JSR sarl
• Mr. Léandre YAMEOGO, Cabinet Pax Valencia and Coordinator West Africa

Participating companies have prepared leaflets and sample products from Burkina Faso for promotional purposes or selling.

5 samples of products ECODEV (sesame seeds, hibiscus, cashews, butter, peanut)

The official launch Magazine FEMINAR
It has actually taken place at the Opening Ceremony at the Westin Hotel; Burkina participated with a title of Léandre YAMEOGO, in two versions: "Women Entrepreneurs in West Africa: anonymous fighting poverty ". (See attached Magazine, Pages 14 to 20)

The Award Ceremony
Sept Awards were handed out; among nominees none French speaking Countries, let alone a Burkinabe.

Results

The first result was the creation of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Buildings and Public Works (official recognition in progress) through the communication plan and the contact of the Ministry of Housing.

Burkina Faso, Through Léandre Yameogo, presented an overview of investment opportunities in West Africa, in partnership with Ms. Nathalie Kouakou (Côte d'Ivoire), and Ms. Hadja Ramatoulaye SOW (Guinea-Conakry).

Contacts and partnerships, some resultants have been obtained:
• Ms Fati Coulibali was appointed as the official representative of Leading Women of Africa in Burkina Faso
• Representation agreements with commercial or administrative structures below:

• Motto Business Consulting (support for private investment)
• Mages Investment Africa (support for private investment)
• Magazine FEMINAR (networking, database, opportunities)
• First National Bank (Foreign Service, direct investment)
• Zhauns (industrial equipment, maintenance, training)

Other Considerations
• Burkina women would like to invite Members of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for sharing experience and setting business relationship in the Mining Services, Buildings and public works

• Involvement of a Burkina Faso company in the acquisition of heavy equipment, Management and Coaching on several themes (personal development, vocational education, communication) with the support of Manageria International Inc.

• The rehabilitation of a hotel and tourist complex on National Route No. 1 (Ouaga - Bobo) has been acquired, subject to submission of a Business Plan; feasibility studies are already underway, and the provisional document will be forwarded to Minister of Culture, Tourism and Communication for approval and support the implementation. The ONTB, SITHO, Communes of Koudougou Sabou and will be involved.

• Still in the Forum result, Pax Valencia has signed a partnership contract with Manageria International Inc. with jurisdiction over Guinea Conakry, Mali and Niger for the implementation of several training programs and business development, with the upcoming installation of American Centre for Economy and Commerce of Burkina Faso.

• Zhauns to provide West Africa, in its representation of Burkina Faso, industrial equipments, for Small Business, at lower cost with extra training of maintenance at the same time that the service after sale equipment (contract under negotiation).

• Finally, in the framework of the World Cup, and at the suggestion of Côte d'Ivoire, it will be created "African villages" in the cities of competing teams of west Africa. These "villages" will be the image of "Dassandaga", but with an emphasis on the culture of each country. Other Difficulties encountered

As noted by Ms. Madelein MKUNU, President of Leading Women of Africa in an interview with Ivorian daily "Le Réveil" and published on May 28, 2008, "It was a very difficult for us since it is the beginning and we did not have many contacts. " In addition to this aspect, the level of awareness in Burkina, has attracted many energies but little results.

Some minor administrative handicaps, lack of financial means to carry out certain sections of planning or communication plan can be reported.

At the Forum, language was a barrier to effective communication of the participants who just had their first outing.

Future perspectives

These difficulties have not discouraged the promotional committee.

The results show that opportunities exist and are numerous particularly with of investments Companies such as FNB, mages Investment Africa, Motto Consulting, ZHAUNS for industrial equipment and organizing Team of Leading Women of Africa for organising such a networking platform for women of Burkina Faso.

Discussions with President of the Egyptian Business Women Association, Dr Amani ASFOUR, confirmed that there are open doors to the Arab world now; Invitation of Congolese members of parliament to Ouagadougou or Abidjan, in partnership with Guinea is another one.

The recent appointment of an ambassador of Burkina Faso in South Africa, we believe is a good move to a new door of trade opportunity for Burkina Faso, especially in Tourism and industrial equipment: PAFASP could be the first beneficiary (equipment for food processing).

Conclusion

The delegation went back satisfied with the meetings and partnerships, and mostly to have contributed to a better understanding of Burkina Faso, however modest it may be.

Our wish is to encourage authorities from public and private Sectors to support such initiatives; who knows, maybe this is the beginning of construction of the middle class as expected in our country.

Besides costs, frequent outings open up opportunities for integration into networks, which in turn, provide openings on the technical, commercial and financial embargo by providing direct private investment which contribute to the fight against poverty.
