PAN AFRICAN YOUTH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CONVENTION
Johannesburg, South Africa – 5-8 December 2016
Under the theme: “Rising toward a Sustainable Africa”
It is a fact that young people are the greatest asset of Africa’s future. According to the African Development Bank, Africa’s youth population is expected to double from the current 420 million youth aged 15-35, to over 830 million by 2050. If properly harnessed, youth could well play a significant role in the sustainable development in Africa and achieve a more inclusive economic growth across the continent.
However African youth face variety of challenges including but not limited to: poverty, unemployment, skills gap, lack of mentorship, human trafficking and many more.
In order to make a meaningful contribution in the African growth and development, it is crucial that the youth in Africa have access to stable economic opportunities. With multiple projects empowering the youth all over Africa, networks of informed youngsters need to rise and lead toward a better Africa.
Furthermore, the African Union (AU) has acknowledged youth as key drivers towards the attainment of the Africa’s Agenda 2063.
To engage on these youth challenges, Leading Women of Africa (LWA) in partnership with Pan-African Young Women Development Initiative (PAYWDI) is hosting the forthcoming Pan-African Youth for Sustainable Development Convention scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 5-8 December 2016.
